Sew Along With June -Block 9

This block is called a 'Flower Basket' …. Stretch your imagination here.
It’s a tricky little block as it requires partial seams an interesting technique that I personally haven’t had much experience with. Always ready for a new challenge…. I carried on. It worked out much easier than I thought and looks great.
So here we go!

Fabric Requirements

  • (1) 2 1/2" square of background fabric
  • (4) 4 1/2" x 2 1/2"  rectangle of print. There will be (2) of one print and (2) of another print.
  • (4) 8" x 2" rectangles of background fabric
  • (4) 11" x 2" rectangle of prints. Once again there will be (2) of one print and (2) of another print.

Sorry I neglected to get a picture of the actual fabric requirements.

Sew a 4 1/2" x 2 1/2" print rectangle to the right side of the 2 1/2" square of background. BUT!! Here is the tricky part. Line up the top edges (the rectangle will be longer than the square) and sew just HALFWAY down the square, therefore, making just a partial seam. Press only the partial seam towards the rectangle.

Take a second print 4 1/2" x 2 1/2" rectangle and sew it across the top of the unit just made. This will be a full seam. Press toward rectangle.
Next sew a 4 1/2" x 2 1/2" rectangle the same fabric as the first and sew to the left side of unit. Press toward rectangle.
Take the last 4 1/2" x 2 1/2" rectangle and sew it to the bottom of the unit. Press toward rectangle
Now sew the remainder of the partial seam and press toward rectangle.

Using the same method as above sew the 8" x 2" background rectangles to the unit. Starting once again with the right side of unit.
Repeat one last time with the 11" x 2"  print fabrics. Make sure the pairs of fabrics are on opposite sides.

That wasn’t so bad was it? Well done!
See you next time.
